Cannabis and Hemp Testing Services

Talon Analytical is an environmental testing laboratory that specializes in testing Hemp, Adult-Use, and Medicinal Cannabis in New York State. Cannabis is tested to meet the current standards set forth by the NYS Laboratory in Albany and the Office of Cannabis Management.

We want our clients to know that they have the industry’s leading products and for consumers to know the same. This is why we don’t just offer a wide array of cannabis testing; we go above and beyond to help our clients thoroughly understand our process and effectively optimize theirs. Talon Analytical is certified for Full Panel Compliance testing, Pesticide Testing, Potency Testing, Heavy Metals Testing, Mycotoxin Testing, and Microbial Contamination Testing by the New York Office of Cannabis Management.

  • Full panel to satisfy NY Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) Adult-Use testing requirements. Includes Cannabinoid potency, Terpenes, Heavy Metals, Residual Solvents (RSA), Pesticides, Mycotoxins, Water Activity, Moisture Content, Filth and Foreign Material, and Microbiological contaminants.
  • The Office has updated its Laboratory Testing Limits document to remove the pass/fail limits associated with the Total Viable Aerobic Bacteria Count and Total Yeast and Mold Count for unextracted cannabis products (e.g. cannabis flower, pre-roll, etc.).
  • Cannabis Laboratories will still run these tests as part of the state-mandated testing panel, but at this time, there will not be a defined limit for unextracted cannabis products in the adult-use program.

Full panel testing to satisfy NY Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) medical testing requirements includes Cannabinoid potency, Heavy Metals, Residual Solvents (RSA), Pesticides, Mycotoxins, Water Activity, Moisture Content, Filth and Foreign Material, and Microbiological contaminants.

  • Includes Cannabinoid potency, Heavy Metals, Growth Regulators and Pesticides, Mycotoxins, and Microbiological contaminants.
  • Includes Cannabinoid potency, Heavy Metals, Growth Regulators and Pesticides, Mycotoxins, and Microbiological contaminants.
  • Support in developing new products. Cannabinoid, pH & stability testing.
  • Support to find and remediate contamination issues, especially for microbiological contaminants and pesticides in production areas.

A LA CARTE OPTIONS

  • Using High Performance Liquid chromatography, we can quantify up to 11 cannabinoids present in products. The analytes include CBD, CBDA, CBG, CBGA, CBDV CBN, CBC, ∆9-THC, ∆8-THC, THCV, and THCA-A.
  • Additional cannabinoids can be tested for upon request.
  • Talon Analytical utilizes Inductively Coupled Plasma mass spectrometry to detect metals down to the parts per trillion level. The metals of concern in NYS are Antimony, Arsenic, Cadmium, Chromium, Copper, Lead, Nickel, Zinc, and Mercury.
  • Talon Analytical utilizes Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry to detect Pesticides, Herbicides, Fungicides and Insecticides. We are constantly updating our list of analytes to prepare for changing regulations
  • Talon Analytical utilizes Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry to detect mycotoxins at the part per billion level. The mycotoxins required for testing by NYS are Aflatoxins B1, B2, G1, G2, and Ochratoxin A.
  • Talon utilizes probe-based DNA technology to quickly and accurately detect microbial contaminants that include:
  • E. Coli species
  • Salmonella species
  • Enterococcus species
  • Bile Tolerant Gram-Negative bacteria
  • Pseudomonas species
  • Thermophilic Actinomyces species
  • Clostridium species
  • Aspergillus species
  • Penicillium species
  • Mucor species.

Complete Microbial Panel Testing includes:

(1) Total Yeast and Mold Plate Count

(2) Total Viable Aerobic Bacteria Plate Count

(3) Aspergillus Presence/Absence

(4) Salmonella Presence/Absence

(5) STEC Presence/Absence

  • Talon uses gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS) to separate and quantify 38 of the most commonly found terpenes in cannabis and hemp.

Talon uses GCMS to screen for all 20 analytes required in New York State.

All solvents used during the production of adult use and medical cannabis product must be declared for targeted testing.

Measured using a moisture balance, expressed as a percentage of the total weight of the tested flower sample.

Water activity is a measurement of how much water is present in cannabis plant matter. Measured with water activity meter.
